North West

The North West group have been meeting monthly since March 2016. We have been invited to present and take part in various events including an Inclusivity conference in Lancaster, Mental Health and Welfare Reform conference in Liverpool, and with Manchester DClinPsy trainees.
We are currently focusing our efforts at different levels:
  • Contributing to the evidence base – separate research projects looking at the impact of Work Capability Assessments on mental health and traumatic brain injury.
  • Networking – We have developed close links with Social Work Action Network (SWAN), Free Psychotherapy Network, Manchester Metropolitan University, Disabled People Against Cuts (DPAC).
  • Grass roots – Liaising with various charities and organisations across the north west.

Events for 2017
April - next meeting is on Thursday 27th April at Abel Heywood, Manchester, M4 1DZ at 6pm onwards. Don't worry if you are late, we know the traffic in to Manchester can be difficult!
May - Location tbc but this meeting will be in Lancaster. This is to accommodate our guest speaker, Sylvia who will be discussing her work with refugees. We will therefore be discussing our potential future involvement.
June - to be arranged

Other related NW based activities that may be of interest:
'Boot Out Austerity Walk' 19th-25th April - inspired by 'Walk the talk' a group of social workers are uniting to raise awareness. NWPSC group members are joining them for the last 2 days of the route and will be walking from Northwich-Runcorn-Liverpool.  Get in touch if you would like to attend.

The North West includes lots of passionate and engaged people and we hope to use this energy in 2017. We therefore welcome any ideas and suggestions you may have. We appreciate that time can be limited and coming to meetings can prove difficult but if you would like to get involved come along to one of our meetings or please feel free to contact us via email/twitter and get involved from a distance!
We would appreciate any help and/or suggestions for our event in February too.
We look forward to hearing from you soon
