Basic Income: A Psychological Impact Assessment
This paper is part of a series of 'Policy Formulations, where we examine different policies for their potential and actual psychological impact.
The Universal Basic Income (UBI), or Citizens Income, is an old idea which has gained considerable attention over recent years. It proposes that all citizens of a country receive a regular, unconditional income throughout their lifetime. This would replace many existing benefits. Some models propose replacing all current benefits with this system. Others propose retaining extra support for people with enhanced needs, such as disabilities. In this paper, we examine the potentials and risks of a UBI from a psychological point of view.
