General Election
Week of Action

2-6 December 2019

Join PSC and others across the country by taking part in our week of actions and activities in the run-up to the General Election! We have activities and actions every day to get us working together ahead of the vote.

Monday 2nd December
Get... informed!

This is a chance for us to get to grips with what the different parties are offering.

Spend today working out where you stand on the different party policies.

Read the party manifestos

Labour; Conservative; Liberal Democrat; Green

Tuesday 3rd December
Get... active in your social network!

Today we'll be talking to people we know socially about issues in the election.

Our blog and briefing paper about communicating divisive issues might help here!

You might want to pick an issue to focus on - such as mental health, the NHS, austerity or Brexit. Speaking to people face to face and from your own experience are both effective tools of persuasion.
Family

Try talking to someone in your family about an issue which is important to you in this election.
Friends

Share some of your views with your friends, and find out how people are planning to vote, if at all.

Social media

Share a piece of news or evidence on social media. Think about what you want people to take from the issue that you're trying to persuade them on.

Wednesday 4th December
 Get... active at work!

Today we'll be taking action to influence people in our workplaces.

Some workplaces have restrictions on communication during elections, known as 'purdah'. If you are in purdah you will probably have been told by your organisation.  If you are not, start a conversation.
Colleagues

Start a conversation with colleagues about an issue which is important to you in the election.
Services

Find out what is in place to support service users or carers on election day. Suggest putting initiatives in place if there isn't any. Take a look at our resources.
Sharing

Share the Mental Health Vote 19 campaign.
Thursday 5th December
Get...public!

Today's the day for getting out and about in public, as well as thinking about your local constituency.

You can find your current MP and check out their voting record here.

Remind yourself of our PSC Manifesto, and check how our priorities match the party manifestos
Local knowledge

Find out who your local candidates are and who is most likely to win in your constituency.
Get involved

Candidates hold local events called hustings where they answer questions from residents. Find and attend your local hustings. You could ask a question about mental health!
Think tactically

You may want to think about voting tactically. There are websites which can help you decide how to vote, depending on your priorities.

You might want to find the best candidate to support Remain.
Friday 6th December
Get... campaigning!

This final day is all about joining up with others to campaign as we head into the final weekend before the election.

If you haven't canvassed before, you will always be alongside experienced people who will show you the ropes.
Find a campaign

Identify an organisation you would like to campaign with.

This could be one of the parties (you don't have to be a member).

Or an issue-based campaign like Campaign Together or Vote NHS.
Think Marginal

Identify marginal constituencies near you as these may be the most effective places to campaign.
Make a plan

Commit to signing up to a canvassing session.
